Is there a greater compliment you can pay a building contractor than “there is not a single thing we would change?”  Yes, and after two years of living in our home, there is still not a single thing we would change.  From the architectural concept forward, this delightful and creative process involved all participants.  Pike Builders encouraged a free flow of ideas and solutions, including some fun that became an essential and fabled part of our home.  As a joke and in our absence, the Pike Crew decided to take a partial day and build an “outhouse” in a space allocated for a powder room using discarded wood pieces, complete with a cutout moon over the toilet space. When they seriously (and jokingly) presented this as an alternative to our design, Mary and I died laughing, then asked them not to change a thing, especially the moon over the toilet! The outhouse is the perfect balance to the elegant powder room on the other end of the hall and example of the work these artisans can do with all kinds of materials.  It is also a hilarious story we tell our guests as we direct them to the outhouse down the hall from the kitchen.  Thank you, Pike Builders, for the experience we shared and our beautiful home, so extraordinary that we continue to discover and celebrate aspects of it each day!

My construction project in Salida was a design-build process.  Steve, Paul, and John brought their experience and expertise to the table while incorporating my desired style elements that weren’t necessarily suited to the cold climate of Colorado.  Their ability to harvest decades-old lumber, brick, and roofing materials gives my home the patina of age with all the comforts of new construction.  It’s been ten years, and I still take delight in the craftsmanship seen in every square foot of the house.  With Pike Builders, it’s a working relationship that developed into a lifelong friendship.

I am an architect in Crested Butte and have been working with the Pike brothers, Pike Builders, Inc., for over 15 years. We have worked together on remodels and numerous custom homes. They have all been completed in a timely manner and on the client’s budget. Pike Builders, Inc. is honest, most capable, and very easy to work with. I would strongly recommend them as contractors for any custom home.

After getting an architectural design, we started to build our house up Ohio Creek Valley back in 2007.  After searching through all the local construction teams, we–luckily–chose the Pike Builders.   Our house was large and complicated; with lots of stonework and ancient wood called for, but the Pikes did a perfect and beautiful job.  They worked closely and very friendly with us, which made us happy.  Our very experienced interior decorator from LA also told us that Pike Builders was the best construction crew she’d ever worked with.  The house was finished in 2009, and thirteen years later we are still delighted with it–and our guests find it awesome.

As a contractor myself for over 40 years, I spent a lot of time qualifying a builder for our new mountain home in Ohio Creek.  I immediately felt comfortable with both Steve and Paul Pike. There is no substitute for local knowledge and experience, and Pike Builders delivered. A terrific building experience.

I have had the pleasure of working with Pike Builders for the past 27 months on a large project in Gunnison, Colorado.

During this time, they have had as many as 20 craftsmen on site.  They have performed several facets of the work, from concrete to steel to rough and finish carpentry, and door and window installation. They are particularly skilled in log and timber installation and have installed over half a million board feet of vintage reclaimed lumber on some 25 different structures.

Their work has always been of top caliber.  They have been dependable, punctual, time and cost-effective.  They are a big reason why the Castleton Ranch project has been successful to date.

I was not living in the Crested Butte area at the time but was planning on spending quite a bit of time up there during the building process to monitor the work.  As it turned out, my daughter was diagnosed with cancer and I didn’t get up there very often.  However, the Pikes kept in constant contact and kept me up to speed on how things were progressing.  Every time I visited the work site, things were exactly as I had been told.  When the project was finished, it was better than I could have ever dreamed.  I have had friends of mine, who are also builders, visit my house and they are very impressed with the quality of work in the house, especially the log work.  The joints are tight and expertly finished.  All the work throughout the house is top quality.

You will not find a finer builder in Gunnison or anywhere else.  I whole heartedly recommend you have Paul and Steve Pike build your home.  It will be the best decision you ever made!
